21/6/08 Seconds Victorious Again
The 2nd XI pulled off a comfortable victory at home against Penarth. On a grey, drizzly day skipper Matthew Thomas won the toss and put Penarth in. The visitors found batting difficult and came up against some accurate Centurion bowling.
Oz Bennett carried on where he left off last week with figures of 4 for 22. The ever impressive Lloyd Bruce took 4 for 42 and John Gee bowled eight overs for just 9 runs, including 4 maidens. Carter's 48 was the best individual contribution in Penarth's total of 132 all out.
In reply Owain Lovering scored 60 not out and David Goodway hit 42 as the 2nds reached the target for the loss of only 3 wickets, with plenty of overs to spare. Only Jones, with 2 for 43 had any success with the ball.

14/6/08 2nds Win at Miskin
The 2nd XI are starting to put some results together as this latest victory over Miskin Manor shows.
Pritchard (36) Thomas (34) and Robinson (27) were the pick of Miskin’s batting as they struggled to find runs. For Centurions, Ian 'Oz' Bennett weighed in with figures of 5/40. Good support from the other bowlers ensured that the final total was restricted to a total of 145 for 9. Maximum bowling points were ensured when the stubborn last wicket pair were finally broken. Oz was well supported by John Gee who went for 24 from his 10 overs, as well as the ever impressive Lloyd Bruce, who got 1 for 19 from 10 overs and two excellent spells of bowling from Aaron Smith who also finished with 1 for 19 from his 10 overs. David Goodway (1) and a run out, from Ben Horlock, completed the wickets.
In reply some early wickets were lost, but the in-form David Goodway (70 not out) and skipper Matthew Thomas (43 not out) ensured victory for the loss of 5 wickets.

7/6/08 Quimby Hits Ton as Seconds Gain Winning 'Draw'
After getting the first win of the season last week the seconds had another good day with this performance against Sudbrook at Burnham Avenue.
David Goodway hit a ton and remained unbeaten on 119 after the 50 overs. Quimby was ably supported by Rhett Jones (43) as he edged towards his first century for the club. Skipper Matthew Thomas also hit a whirlwind half century which helped secure maximum batting ponts. A total of 257 for 5 had been reached when the innings closed.
After tea, the usually reliable John Gee was completely out of sorts and he was taken off after his first two overs went for 27 runs. Huw Williams and Aaron Smith continued and Huw had a great spell with the ball - ending with 2 for 13 off his 10 overs. Some good, economical bowling from Shae Ellis and Lloyd Bruce kept the visitors in check and then when John Gee returned to the attack he had regained his old composure and ended with figures of 4 for 41 off nine overs. Then that man Goodway chipped in with a wicket. Sudbrook were never going to reach the target and managed to last out the whole of the 50 overs - ending on 186 for 9. This result lifts the team up to 6th in the table.

17/5/08 Lloyd Stars in First Win
The 2nd XI chalked up their first win of the season with this victory at Usk. Star of the show was young Lloyd Bruce, who picked up 5 wickets for 31 with a confident display of spin bowling. Only Watkins (63) and Rees (33) managed to show some resistance for the home side as they were skittled out for 127.
The Centurion reply was confident and thanks to Peter Holstrom (36) Hugh Smith (29) and Steve Hood (24 not out) the target was reached for the loss of only 3 wickets.

10/5/08 Defeat at Abergaveny
The trip to Abergavenny brought a 3rd successive defeat for the 2nds. The home side batted first and thanks a couple of good knocks (Barnsley 72 and Viveash 66) reached 200 for 7 after the allotted 50 overs. The best Centurion bowling figures came from Steve Hood, who got 2 for 36 off his 8 overs and Shae Ellis (2 for 44).
The Centurion reply saw some decent individual scores (Matt Thomas 40; Owain Lovering 33; David Goodway 31) but the runs dried up and we were all out for 158.

3/5/08 Home Defeat As 2nds Slump Again
The 2nd XI lost to Chepstow, in spite of a nice knock of 79 from wicket keeper Owain Lovering.
Batting first Centurions put on 19 for the first wicket on the slow pitch, which had seen a fair amount of midweek rainfall. Wickets fell with regularity and Owain's half century was the only real bright spot. Only Lovering, Rhett Jones (15), Peter Holstrom (16) and Ben Horlock (17) reached double figures in a disappointing total of 163 all out.
The visitors lost an early wicket but a half century stand for the 2nd wicket put them on their way. Goodway bowled accurately and had 4 maidens in his ten overs, ending with 2 for 23. Youngsters Shae Ellis (1 for 20) and Lloyd Bruce (0 for 34) bowled 20 overs of spin between them - pegging the opposition back at times. However, with several dropped catches and too many wides, along with such a small target to defend, the inevitable outcome was a second defeat - although Chepstow took the full fifty overs to achieve victory.

26/4/08 2nds Lose Opening Match
The 2nd XI travelled to Newport and came unstuck in this opening fixture of the 2008 season.
Centurions batted first and had lost 2 wickets for only 20 runs - but a 3rd wicket stand appeared to have steadied the ship at 90/3. Then a catastrophic collapse followed and they were skittled out for just 130. Only Peter Holstrom and David Goodway, who both made 28, were able to show some resistance.
The home batsmen reached the target for only the loss of a couple of wickets - both for young Lloyd Bruce. Hopefully with a more balanced full strength team the 2nds can soon bounce back.
